SPORTS

There's no question that sports are an integral part of a young woman's successful development, but according to the Women's Sports Foundation, girls who play sports at a young age get a lot more than just exercise. FILIA girls do better in school - exercise improves learning, memory, and concentration, giving an advantage both on the field and in the classroom. FILIA girls learn teamwork from their teammates and goal-setting from their coaches, valuable skills that carry beyond just winning games. FILIA girls are more confident - practicing, improving, and achieving goals on the field help young women build self confidence off the field.

AGES

From our experience, there's no "right age" to begin playing sports - it's entirely dependent on your child and what her interests are. However, when she's ready, FILIA will give her the best possible starting point from grade 1-9. Starting at an early age, our lacrosse and field hockey programs focus on fun, play, and healthy development. As the girls grow into the sport, we add more technical training and precision skills without ever sacrificing our dedication to inclusion and support. FILIA girls who participate in our programs from an early age will have a competitive advantage among their peers as they enter high school and begin serious competition.

LOCATIONS

FILIA sports organization is based primarily in the suburbs of Philadelphia. We offer indoor and outdoor programs throughout the year in Radnor, Lower Merion, Marple Newtown, and Tredyffrin Easttown. We've also expanded to offer programs on the North Shore of Boston, in Hamilton/Wenham, MA. We invite you to explore our program options below and find the program that best suits your location and schedule!

FROM SCOOP TO FILIA

FILIA comes from the Latin root for "daughter" and is used around the world to describe a group of young women, friendship, and female empowerment - exactly what SCOOP lacrosse and STRIKE field hockey stand for. Established in 2006 by founders Kim Richter and Lynn Dwyer, our programs have flourished into the premier girls' youth sports organization, through which we provide young women a path to success both on and off the field. Today, FILIA encompasses field hockey and lacrosse programs that set a strong foundation in the fundamentals of the game for grades 1-2, and extend all the way to competitive programs for grades 8-9.

WHY WE DO IT

Founders Kim and Lynn, each having three girls of their own, originally set out to provide fun and inclusive lacrosse programs for young women on the Main Line in Philadelphia. SCOOP Lacrosse was an instant hit and has evolved into multiple lacrosse and field hockey programs in Philadelphia and Northern Boston for grades 1-9, all of which now operate under the FILIA umbrella.

However, it was never just about the sports - it's about learning in a positive, supportive environment. It's about ensuring that everyone is included, no matter their age or skill set. It's about ensuring that everyone leaves the field with more skill, more confidence, and a smile. It's about establishing a strong foundation for success both on and off the field.
